YSU Opens Weekend With Win Over Saint Francis – Youngstown State Athletics

The Youngstown State women’s tennis team picked up a 6-1 victory over Saint Francis on Saturday at the YSU Indoor Tennis Center.
The Penguins (3-4) won the doubles point and took home wins in five of six singles contests against the Red Flash (5-4).
In doubles, YSU earned wins at all three spots.
SFU claimed the first singles match at No. 6 before the Guins won the final five contests.
At No. 5, Lili Minich picked up a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Eliska Masarikova was the next to pick up a win as she won 6-4, 7-5 at No. 2. Masarikova won the final five points of the set after trailing 5-2. The Penguins clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-3 win by Julia Marko at No. 3 singles. At No. 4, Jessica Stanmore rallied for a three-set win. Stanmore dropped her first set 7-5 before winning the last two, 6-1 and 6-3.
At No. 1 Cecilia Rosas won a marathon three-set match to close out the contest. Rosas won her first set 7-6 before falling 7-6 in the second set. In the third-set super tiebreaker she won the set 10-5 for the win.
YSU is back in action tomorrow when it plays host to Bowling Green. First serve is scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
