The accolades continued for Uxbridge High junior Aidan Ross when he smashed the Spartans’ record in the 2 mile last weekend, and then further lowered the standard at the Division 5 state meet Friday night, also at the Reggie.

Ross, the Division 3 state champion in cross-country last fall, easily won the 2 mile at the Last Chance to Qualify Meet last Saturday at the Reggie Lewis Athletic Center with a 9:32.15, 17½ seconds faster than Greater Lowell Tech’s Albert Ferreras (9:49.75).

Then on Friday, Ross eclipsed the D5 meet record, beating Littleton’s Bona Bradshaw by more than a half minute, in 9:24.96.

Close friend and former Uxbridge standout Colin Caso held the previous record in 9:48.12. Caso runs track at Oklahoma University after transferring there from Central Connecticut State University this winter.

“I talk to (Caso) everyday,” Ross said. “He was watching the race. I didn’t really think of breaking his record, I guess.

“My plan going into the race was just go out and get a qualifying time for the divisionals so I can be in a fast heat,” Ross added. “I didn’t have a time to get me into the fast heat because I really didn’t have an opportunity to run quickly at any of our league meets. The dual meets were more to help my team out. It definitely feels good. I think I can definitely break nine minutes. I think it’s doable.”

Ross, already is headed to the New Balance Nationals Indoor in a 5K event.

Ross won the mile and ran the first leg of the Spartans’ first-place 3,200 relay at the Central/Western Division 2 Meet last spring, in addition to winning the Division 3B race in cross-country, a week before his thrilling victory at All-States.
