Trojans pull in top five finishes at state indoor meet – Tama News-Herald – Toledo Chronicle

The South Tama County Trojans track and field season got going earlier this month as the team has been in action at a handful of indoor meets.

The Trojans were among a huge field of 3A competitors on March 10 and 11 for the IATC Indoor Championships held on the Iowa State University campus in Ames.

South Tama’s returning 2021 State Meet qualifiers including Jo Jo Tyynismaa, Emma Harwick, Trusten Rosenberger, Tommy Tyynismaa and James Brant helped their teams to successful outings at the indoor meet.

Jo Jo Tyynismaa came away with a third place finish in the 60-meter hurdles, while Harwick finished fourth in the 3A high jump contest.

On the boys side, Tommy Tyynismaa scored a third-place finish in the 800-meter run and Brant a fourth-place finish in the 1600-meter run.

South Tama’s top finish of the meet came from the boys 4×400 relay team of Gavin Bridgewater, Brant, Rosenberger and Tyynismaa. The group edged out ADM by less than one second to secure the runner-up medal behind champion Gilbert.

A similar Trojans group also bagged a third-place finish in the 4×800 relay behind Pella and Dallas Center-Grimes. STC’s 4×800 crew was made up of Rosenberger, Brant, Tyynismaa and Braxten Rohrs.

The teams will compete this weekend at the WaMaC Conference Indoor Meet and will begin their regular outdoor season on March 28 at the annual Benton Early Bird Meet in Van Horne.

Trojan fans will have two opportunities to see South Tama’s varsity track team in action at home this season. The team has home meets scheduled for Tuesday, April 5 and Tuesday, April 26.
