TRACK AND FIELD COMMENCES OUTDOOR CAMPAIGN WITH HANDFUL OF EVENT TITLES AT BVU OUTDOOR INVITE – Dakota Wesleyan University

STORM LAKE, Iowa – Fresh off a successful indoor campaign, the Dakota Wesleyan University track and field program commenced the 2021-22 outdoor docket at the BVU Outdoor Invite on Saturday, and Dakota Wesleyan dialed several impressive first-place finishes along with an NAIA ‘B’ standard and a meet record.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Caden Milmine, the 2021 NAIA outdoor qualifier, opened the competition for Dakota Wesleyan with both an NAIA ‘B’ standard and new meet record in the men’s shot put competition. The Buffalo, Wyo., native swept the field with a toss of 15.54 meters. Also in the throwing events, Katlyn Briggs and Lila Gronseth went back-to-back in the women’s discus as the DWU duo ended the day first and second, respectively.

Ashtyn Evans claimed the event title in the triple jump with a leap of 10.28m while Ryley Johansen cleared a height of 1.88m to win the men’s high jump field. Senior jumps specialist Lia Guigui meanwhile posted a distance of 5.41m in the long jump for the event victory.

Annika Vermeulen and Caleb Sayler shined bright for the DWU distance program with wins in the 1500 and 5,000. Vermeulen, the junior from Mitchell, logged a time of 5:34.81 minutes while Sayler crossed the finish line in 16:43.41 for the win in the 5k.

Head coach Matthew Rosado and the Tigers continue the outdoor campaign with an in-state competition next at the USD Early Bird Invite on Saturday in Vermillion, S.D.
