As part of our summer series, we are looking back at the best moments from the 2021-2022 academic year, today featuring WPI men’s track & field graduate Oliver Thomas and his trip to Washington to compete in the United States National Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Spokane, WA — WPI Oliver Thomas (Goffstown, NH) competed Sunday in the United States National Indoor Track and Field Championships at The Podium in Spokane, Washington. The graduate student turned in a time of 7.99 to place seventh in his heat and 19th overall.
Grant Holloway, the 60-meter hurdle world record holder and 2021 Olympic silver medalist in the 110-meter high hurdles and 2019 World Champion, won the finals in a meet record time of 7.37. Jarret Eaton, the 2016 and 2020 60-meter hurdle US Champion and World Indoor silver medalist was second (7.47) and Aaron Mallet was third with a personal best of 7.54.
Thomas’ sub-eight time is the fifth occasion he posted a mark under eight seconds this season. No other Division III men’s 60-meter hurdler has accomplished the feat this season. Thomas in on track to be the top seed in the NCAA Division III Championships in two weeks in Winston-Salem, NC.
