Sports briefs: FireWolves golf outing set for Sept. 26 – The Daily Gazette – The Daily Gazette

The Albany FireWolves annual “PACK Gives Back” charity golf outing will be played Monday, Sept. 26, at Normanside Country Club in Delmar.

The event begins with a 9:30 a.m. shotgun start in a four-person scramble. Sponsorship packages and foursomes are available, and include breakfast, greens fees, a cart, beverages on the course, a cocktail reception and dinner. To register to play or for sponsorship opportunities, visit www.AlbanyFireWolves.com/GolfOuting.

Proceeds from the golf outing go to the FireWolves Foundation to support philanthropic efforts. Last year’s inaugural golf outing raised over $15,000.

SKIDMORE ADDS FISHER

Skidmore College recently hired Lake George native Peter Fisher as its assistant athletic director.

Fisher recently completed a year as an athletics facilities and events supervisor at New York University. Previously, he was the assistant director for sport clubs, intramural sports and special events at Adelphi University.

Fisher graduated with a degree in sport management from SUNY Cortland and later earned a master’s degree in the same discipline from Adelphi.

SWEENEY, THOMAS RECOGNIZED

Aislinn Sweeney and Kobe Thomas were selected as UAlbany’s representatives for the 2021-22 America East Helping Hands team, the conference recently announced.

 The Helping Hands team recognizes one male and one female student-athlete from each of the America East’s member institutions for their efforts in the area of community service while remaining in good academic standing.

Sweeney is a rising senior goalkeeper on the women’s lacrosse team. From Halfmoon and a Shenendehowa High School graduate, Sweeney appeared in 15 games for the Great Danes in 2022 with a 13.16 goals-against average and a .437 save percentage. Sweeney was a second team all-conference selection last season.

Thomas, a rising senior offensive lineman on the football team, appeared in all 11 of UAlbany’s games during the season at center.

SAINT ROSE, SKIDMORE NAME SOFTBALL COACHES

Liz Neubinski was named Skidmore’s new softball coach and P.J. Anadio was named Saint Rose’s new softball coach, the colleges recently announced.

Neubinski recently completed her fourth year as head coach at SUNY Cobleskill. Neubinski led the 2022 SUNY Cobleskill team to a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Western Division regular-season championship with an 11-1 record. She was named the 2022 NAC Coach of the Year. A graduate of the University of Rochester of the Liberty League, Neubinski coached at the University of Redlands, Wells College and Hamilton College before leading SUNY Cobleskill.

Anadio recently completed his 12th year as the head coach at Herkimer. In 2022, Herkimer was 33-9-1 overall, captured the NJCCA Region 3B Championship and advanced to its 10th consecutive NJCCA World Series. He has been named the NJCCA Region III Coach of the Year on three occasions, the Mountain Valley Conference Coach of the Year eight times and his entire staff was honored as the 2013 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Staff of the Year. Anadio recorded a 437-89-1 overall record, including a 156-8 conference mark, and guided the Generals to the 2013 NJCCA National Championship, along with five national runner-up finishes.

VIVES TO LEAD PUERTO RICO TEAM

Roberto Vives, UAlbany’s director of track and field and cross country, has been selected by the Federación de Atletismo de Puerto Rico to serve as team leader …….
