SMSU INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD: SMSU closes regular season at SDSU Last Chance – Marshall Independent

BROOKINGS, S.D. — The Southwest Minnesota State University track & field teams had its final meet of the regular season on Saturday competing at the SDSU Last Chance Meet.

SMSU will now prepare for the NSIC Indoor Championships on Feb. 25-26 in Mankato.

The SMSU women’s team had two individual records broken on Saturday. Isatu Shirek broke the school mark in the 60 meter hurdles with a prelim time of 8.83 to advance to the final. The time is also an NCAA provisional mark. She would finish with a time of 8.85 in the finals to place fifth overall.

Shealyn Tom set a school record in the pole vault tying for fifth overall at 3.28m.

On the men’s side, McKallen Smith placed second in the high jump with a mark of 1.90m.

Renald Pierre ran 8.26 in the 60m hurdles to finish third, while teammate Zak Kubitz ran 8.69 to earn seventh place.

Patrick Jenkins picked up a sixth place finish in the 600 meters crossing the line at 1:28.90.
