Penguins Post Final Marks Before Conference Championships – Youngstown State Athletics

AKRON, Ohio – In its final showing before the 2021-22 Horizon League Indoor Track and Field Championships, a portion of the Youngstown State track and field program posted final marks at Akron’s Al Campbell Invitational on Feb. 18 inside the Stile Athletics Field House.

Akron Al Campbell Invitational Highlights
Erin Bogard earned the first-place nod in the women’s pole vault competition, clearing a 3.98m (13′ 0¾”) bar. Also earning a top-5 finish, Katlyn Griffie cleared 3.68m (12′ 0¾”) for fourth. In the men’s event, Elijah Nelson added a third place finish with a 4.88m (16′ 0″) vault.

Tabbing the silver medal in the event, Ryan Laird highlighted the YSU effort in the 400m with a personal-best time of 49.83. Fellow first-year Penguin William Delbaugh finished fifth with a time of 50.93.

The Penguins set personal-bests in the men’s mile, led by Riley Jackson who clocked a time of 4:18.76 to finish fourth in the event. Behind, Evan Alten recorded a time of 4:22.24 for 10th and Chase Harbaugh posted a time of 4:28.81 for 14th.

Julia Magliocca acted as the only Penguin representative in the women’s mile, clocking a personal-best time of 5:15.61 for 12th in the event.

First-year Penguin Antoine Brown clocked a new personal-best in the 200m, posting a time of 22.64 to finish with the fourth-fastest time clocked on the evening.

The Penguins went 5, 6, 7, 8 in the men’s 800m race and were led by Jack Wilcoxson who crossed with a personal-best time of 1:55.14. Not far behind, Mikel Lagaras clocked a personal-best time of 1:55.90, Derek Basinger recorded a personal-best time of 1:58.39 and CJ Schumacher finished with a time of 1:59.47.

Emily Wolf logged a new personal-best mark in the weight throw, posting a 14.73m (48′ 5″) mark for fourth in the event. Krista Perry finished sixth with a 12.85m (42′ 2″) throw.

Throwing 14.39m (47′ 2½”), Coleson Kertesz tallied a new personal-best in the shot put en route to a seventh-place finish. Austin Clay finished eighth with a 14.31m (46′ 11½”) chuck.

The Penguins ended the meet with three top-10 finishes in the women’s 3000m run. Natalie Fleming paced the trio of YSU competitors a personal-best mark of 10:14.38. Each turning in personal-best times, Maggie Sebest (10:32.36) and Ashley Ventimiglia (10:35.82) finished eighth and ninth, respectively.

The Penguins are back in action next weekend, Feb. 26-27, as they host the 2021-22 Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Watson and Tressel Training Site.
