UNIVERSITY PARK — Altoona Area High School senior Ty Friedenberger earned third- and fifth-place finishes in the Pa. Track and Field Coaches Association Indoor State Championships on Sunday at the Penn State Multisport Indoor Facility.

Friedenberger was third in the boys’ triple jump with a leap of 44 feet, 5 inches and was fifth in the long jump at 21-11.25. He also was 16th in the 60-meter dash (7.12 seconds).

Altoona senior Brooke Long placed sixth in the girls’ long jump with a 17-6.75. She was also 10th in the triple jump (36-5.75) and 14th in the 60 dash (7.92).

Altoona freshman Branson Adams earned a ninth-place finish in the boys’ triple jump at 43-3.75.

In addition, the Altoona boys 3200 relay was eighth (8:12.83), the girls 800 relay was 14th (1:48.18) and the girls 1600 relay was 20th (4:15.04).

Area racing returns

ABBOTTSTOWN — Sunday’s race was Freddie Rahmer’s first at Lincoln Speedway for his new car owner, Rich Eichelberger, and he sped his way to victory.

It was the first “Ice Breaker” opening-day win for the two-time track champion at Lincoln.

This Saturday, Lincoln is back in action with 410 sprint cars and open practice on tap.

Mount ranked third

CRESSON — The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference recently released their annual preseason coaches’ poll for softball and Mount Aloysius was picked to finish third, behind Penn State Behrend and Pitt-Bradford.
