Maryland institutes vaccine mandate for indoor sports events – Washington Times

The University of Maryland will require all fans to have a COVID-19 vaccine or negative COVID-19 test result to attend an indoor sporting event at Xfinity Center, the university’s athletic department announced Monday.

Beginning with Maryland’s home men’s basketball game Sunday against Wisconsin, fans will have to provide either a COVID-19 vaccination card, a picture or screenshot of that card or a vaccination record from a pharmacy, or a screenshot of negative test results from a PCR or antigen test done by a professional.

Additionally, negative test results must occur within 48 hours of game time to be accepted for entry.

Results from at-home COVID-19 tests will not be accepted, and a valid photo ID must also be shown with a vaccination card or test results for fans to enter the arena.

The requirement applies to all attendees of any Maryland indoor sporting event ages 12 and older. Those under 12 are exempt, as are Maryland students, who are already required to be vaccinated for COVID-19 by the university.

An indoor mask mandate will also remain in effect in tandem with the new vaccination requirement. A previously-announced ban on concession sales to try and limit the spread of COVID-19 will also remain in effect through Saturday.

Concessions will reopen for events beginning on Sunday.
