Magill headed to NCAA Championships in 5K – Brandeis Athletics

WALTHAM, Mass. – Brandeis University senior Erin Magill of Moretown, Vermont, will represent the Judges at the 2022 NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, this weekend.

Magill is qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 5,000-meter run. Her season-best time of 17:09.99 was run at the University Athletic Association championships on February 26, when she won the UAA title by about 14 seconds over runner-up Frances Schlaeffler of the University of Chicago. Magill’s time is the 10th seed at the NCAA Championships. She is third among New England qualifiers. The 5,000-meter run will be the final individual race on the first day of competition on Friday, March 11, with the women slated to start at 4:35 p.m.

Magill is Brandeis’s first qualifier for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the 5,000-meters since Kate Warwick ’12 in 2012. She is seeking to become Brandeis’s first All-American in the indoor 5,000-meter run since Mariko Tansey Holbrook Neveu ’03 in 2003.

This will be Magill’s third trip to an NCAA Championship event, but first in indoor track and field and first as an individual. She was an alternate for the Judges’ NCAA Cross Country team in 2018 as a first-year, and returned as the team’s #2 runner as the Judges qualified this past fall in cross country. She earned her first career All-America honor in cross country in 2021 when she finished in 36th place.

Magill is a 2018 graduate of Harwood Union High School.
