INDOOR TRACK: Outstanding performances at Sunday’s Section V Indoor Track Championships. – The Daily News Online

HOUGHTON — Dansville’s indoor track and field team won two sectional titles Sunday at the Section V Indoor Track and Field Championships at Houghton College.

The Dansville girls, with only nine athletes competing, placed third as a team in Class A3.

Dansville sophomore Brianne Hurlburt captured Dansville’s lone individual title in the 1000 meter run (3:23.18).

Her victory qualified her for the State Qualifiers this Friday night.

She will not be going alone as Hurlburt, along with teammates Riley Nagle, Summer Foster and Maggie Bacon, captured the 3200 relay title with a time of 10:54.65.

Bacon, a junior, placed second in both the 1500 and 3000.

Le Roy’s Charlotte Blake won the 1500 with a time of 5:10.80, nine seconds ahead of Bacon.

Bacon’s second place finish in the 3000 was in front of third place Blake by 21 seconds.

Other Dansville performers included Abby Kendall, Katilyn Lee, Ally Schirmer and Haley Beman’s sixth place finish in the 1600 relay.

Beman had a solid day as she was also second in the 55 with a PR time of 7.8 seconds and third in the 300 with another PR of 43.90 seconds.

Foster also finished fourth in the 600 with a PR of 1:49 while Nagle was sixth in the 1500. Sofia Rodriguez placed sixth in the 3000 with a PR (12:51).

“Small but mighty is our motto,” Dansville head coach Eileen McMaster said. “Ten athletes competed overall and all placed in at least one event.”

DeShawn Owens, a one man team for the Dansville boys, placed in all three of his events including fourth in the 300 breaking his own school record with a time of 37.72.

He was fifth in both the 55 and long jump.

“We are so proud of this team and look forward to State Qualifiers Friday night at Houghton.”

Williamson won the title while Dansville (57 pts) and Le Roy (53 pts) were third and fourth respectively.

Other local top performers included a pair of York/Pavilion athletes Erica Palmer won the pole vault (9-0) and Peytyn Geer won the long jump (16-8). Geer also placed second in the triple jump.

Le Roy senior Megan Benware who won the high jump (5-01) while Le Roy’s 1600 relay also placed first (4:30.47) as Blake, Benware along with Riley Wood and Quinn Doty were victorious.

Livonia’s Isabelle Vinci was second in the 55 hurdles.

The Le Roy boys finished second in Class A3 overall.

Le Roy has been in the top three boys teams seven of the last eight years under head coach Jay Laitenberger including three titles.

Le Roy’s 1600 relay won the title as Brian Roblee, James Blake, Jacob Elmore, and Brett Babcock earned the crown running their best time of the season.

The team of Ian Kepple, Erik Schwab, Ben Robinson, and Dray Grayson also ran their best time of the year and finished second.

Second place finishers for Le Roy included Brett Babcock and Dray Grayson with both PR’s in the 600 while Erik Schwab was second in both the 1600 and 3200.

Keshequa’s Klump wins two titles in A4

Keshequa sophomore Elsye Klump competed as a team of one for the Lady Indians and placed seventh at the A4 championships beating 12 teams all by herself.

Klump accounted for 28 points on the day as she placed first in both the long jump (16-6) and triple jump (37-1/4) and was second in the 55 (7.75).
