MITCHELL, S.D. – Four members of the Dakota Wesleyan University track and field team punched their ticket to the 2022 NAIA national indoor track and field championships after a competitive outing at the Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) indoor track and field championships over the weekend. This year’s national championship event is hosted by Dakota State University and is set to take place on Thursday, March 3 through Saturday, March 5 from the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, S.D.

Lia Guigui continued her momentum from the 2021 outdoor campaign in which she competed at the outdoor national championships in the high jump as well. The Dakota Wesleyan senior, who registered DWU bests in the high jump and long jump at the indoor conference championships, secured the NAIA ‘B’ standard in the high jump field over the weekend.

Guigui cleared a height of 5-5 (1.65m) good enough for an All-GPAC runner-up performance while the Rapid City, S.D., native tallied a mark of 17-8.25 (5.39m) in the long jump standings good enough for a sixth-place finish. Slated to jump at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, March 5, the Tiger jumps specialists enters the indoor championships ranked in the top-15.

Positioned for her first trip to the NAIA national championships, Katlyn Briggs punched her ticket in the weight throw and is currently situated in 11th-place nationally with an NAIA ‘A’ standard. The program record holder in the event dialed a toss of 54-10.25 (16.72m) in Saturday’s conference meet as she furthered the event record and captured a fourth-place finish. A 2021 outdoor qualifier as well, the Plankinton, S.D., native is scheduled to enter the throwing ring at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 4.

Morgan Taft, who embarks on her second-consecutive trip to the NAIA indoor championship meet, enters the competition with a season best and national qualifying standard of 53-10.5 (16.42m) in the weight throw. The Dakota Wesleyan throws specialist secured a top-10 mark at the conference championships and will be seeking an NAIA All-American finish. Like Briggs, Taft is set to spin into action at 3 p.m. on March 4 and is ranked top-20 nationally.

Rounding out this season’s Tiger qualifiers is Caden Milmine in the shot put as the throw specialists looks to match his national championship top-5 performance from a season ago. He maintains a season best and qualifying standard of 53-5.75 (16.3m) while the Buffalo, Wyo., native notched a top-3 performance in the event in Saturday’s field. The lone DWU men’s qualifier, Milmine is situated just outside the top-10 on the national leaderboards and is slated to throw the shot 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 5.
