Fayetteville-Manlius indoor track sweeps at MVITA meet – Eagle News Online

UTICA – Both of the Fayetteville-Manlius indoor track and field teams made their way to Utica College’s Hutton Dome to open their 2021-22 seasons in the Mohawk Valley Indoor Track Association Relays.

And each of those sides would win, the boys Hornets earning 86 points to nearly lap runner-up Camden (48 points) and a field of 25 teams, while the F-M girls prevailed with 64 points to Rome Free Academy’s second-place 47.

Anthony Otis, Cooper Dereszynski, Will Seamans and Nolan McGinn needed eight minutes, 44.49 seconds to pull away and take the 4×800 relay. Otis took third (4:50.36) and Otis fifth (4:51.07) in the 1,600-meter run.

Then, in the 4×400, the Hornets had Chris Dame, Mason Weires, Trevor Krukin and Connor Hutko win in 3:59.09, holding off Whitesboro (3:59.99) in that race. Kurkin and Vincent Hunt both cleared 5 feet in the high jump to tie for fourth place.

The sprint medley relay had Dereszynski, Seamans, Ore Abolade and Vincent Hunt give the Hornets another victory in 3:54.89. Abolade took third in the long jump, going 18 feet 10 ½ inches.

Seth Albert was third in the 55-meter dash in 6.93 seconds and helped Dame, Brandon Warren and Carter Husted get third place in the 4×200 relay in 1:44.61. Liam Malgieri threw the shot put 38’1” to finish fourth, with Owen Rohan seventh and Guy Juran eighth in the triple jump.

State Class A cross country champion Izzie Sullivan joined Hannah Kaercher, Isabella Adrian and Amelia Amack to go 9:35.70 in the 4×800, more than a minute and a half ahead of Utica Proctor’s 11:06.33.

Kaercher would win the 1,500-meter run in 4:42.42, with Sullivan fourth in 4:51.87, and in the sprint medley Kaercher, Adrian, Maya McKenzie and Natalee Barber dominated the race, winning in 4:19.29.

On her own, McKenzie went 7.66 seconds to beat the field in the 55 sprint. Barber was third in the 55-meter hurdles in 9.38 seconds and fifth in the long jump with 14’10 ½” ahead of Elina Cabrera’s 14’9 ½” in sixth place. C

Wren Usiatynski was second in the pole vault, clearing 9’6”. The Hornets were fourth in the 4×400 in 4:54.24 and fourth in the 4×200 in 2:03.68. Bella Pierie was ninth in the shot put and Cabrera ninth in the triple jump.
