This semester, everyone can support the Beavers athletes, both indoor and outdoor at American River College.

Due to COVID-19, fans weren’t allowed to watch indoor sports for almost two years, but as of Aug. 20, students are able to watch sports in person again.

According to Steven Roberson, ARC’s dean of kinesiology and athletics, the campus is ready to host games indoors and outdoors. COVID-19 protocols will be followed to ensure safety on campus.

Indoor games require proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test. In outdoor games, fans are not required to show proof of vaccination or a negative test.

“Having fans back on campus will provide an opportunity for our student-athletes, it will increase the competition level and allow them to be seen by some recruiters, to get a scholarship and transfer to a 4-year-college,” Roberson said. “It is really important to have that energy that just the fans can bring out there, it provides an environment that athletes like to have.”

The student-athletes are looking forward to this opportunity, even if some are a little bit nervous.

“It is stimulating to have fans watching our games again, but also a little nerve-racking,” said Aurora Meneghetti, an ARC volleyball player. “I think it will take some time to get used to it again.”

Meneghetti said that during the first experience of a game with fans, the atmosphere was very different. The team was more motivated to play harder, and that made them feel part of the community as well.

“When people were not allowed in the gym, most of the time games were quiet, however, now the gym is so loud,” Meneghetti said.

Isaiah Rheaume, an ARC football player, believes that this is a chance for the athletes to build confidence, and at the same time, show their support to the school and community.

“Being able to support other indoor sports will be helpful to build relationships with other college mates,” Rheaume said. “And a chance to improve social skills.”

Fans can now buy tickets to cheer for the Beavers, on the Beaver Athletics website.

Different purchase programs are available on the website. ARC students get in for free at all sporting events.
