European athletics championships 2022: Day 6 featuring Mondo Duplantis, Keely Hodgkinson and Femke Bol – Live updates – Olympics

Femke Bol headlined day six of the 2022 European athletics championships in Munich by producing another outstanding one-lap performance.

After becoming the first woman to complete a 400m/400m hurdles double in a major competition, the 22-year-old anchored the Dutch women’s relay quartet to a 4x400m title and captured her third gold of the championships.

Team GB had a night to remember at the Olympiastadion: Keely Hodgkinson finally won a long-awaited gold in the 800m after claiming three major championship silvers in the last 12 months (Olympics, Worlds, Commonwealth Games).

She was followed by the British quartet, who took a thrilling men’s 4x400m relay gold with Matthew Hudson-Smith grabbing his second title in this competition .

Finally Swedish superstar Armand ‘Mondo’ Duplantis didn’t disappoint and retained his continental crown in the pole vault event with a championship record.

Men’s Pole vault: Duplantis does what he does best

This is Mondo’s world and we are just living in it.

Armand Duplantis did not disappoint the German crowd and wrapped up his night after reaching a height of 6.06m and setting a new championship record before choosing to not continue.

The Swedish star was favourite having recently won gold and set a new world record (6.21m) at the World Athletics Championships.

Silver went to Germany’s Bo Kanda Lita Baehre (5.85) and bronze to Norway’s Pal Haugen Lillefosse (5.75).

Women’s 3000 steeplechase: First gold for Armenia!

After winning silver six years ago in Amsterdam, Luiza Gega bags another European medal winning steeplechase gold in Munich.

The 33-year-old Albanian clocked a championship record time of 9:11.31 to finish ahead of local favourite Lea Meyer (9:15.35).

Britain’s Elizabeth Bird completed the podium in 9:23.18

Women’s 4 x 400m Relay: Femke Bol anchors win for the Dutch

There’s only one colour on Femke Bol’s lips and that’s gold.

The 22-year-old Olympic bronze medallist claimed her third gold of these champs after anchoring her Dutch team of Eveline Saalberg, Lieke Klaver and Lisanne De Witte. Bol passed her rivals approximately 100m before the finish line which she crossed in a time of 3:20.87, a Dutch national record.

The Polish (3:21.68) and British (3:21.74) teams ran season best times to take home silver and bronze respectively.

Women’s javelin: Tzengko claims fourth gold for Greece

Elina Tzengko is the new javelin European champion.

With a personal best of 65.81m, the 19-year-old beat fellow teenager Adriana Vilagos of Serbia (62.01).

At 41 years old, two-time Olympic champion – and world record holder – Barbora Spotakova of Czech Republic took bronze (60.68), her fourth European medal since winning silver in 2006.

Men’s 4 x 400m Relay: Hudson-Smith leads Team GB to gold!

Great Britain claimed their fifth gold at the European athletics championships after a stellar run by Matthew Hudson-Smith, Charles Dobson, Lewis Davey and brought home by Alex Haydock-Wilson in the 4x400m relay.

In the first lap Hudson-Smith, who retained his individual 400m title on Tuesday, gave a 10-metre lead to the British quartet and Haydock-Wilson held off France and Belgium to cross the line …….
