‘Develop sports edu hub at Palika Stadium’ – Times of India

Kanpur: The Mega Sports Indoor Infra of UP has been asked to develop a sports educational hub at the Palika stadium where players and students can get proper training and where lectures, academics and seminars can be held.
Divisional commissioner Raj Shekhar, who visited the construction site of Mega Sports Indoor Infra of UP at the Palika Stadium on Wednesday, instructed the chief executive officer (CEO) of Kanpur Smart City Limited to make a proposal for installation of solar panels on the roof structure of the complex so that basic lighting can be done from them and building can be made energy efficient. He asked the nodal officer to make a return on investment with an operation and maintenance module which should be duly vetted by IIM, Indore.
He told the nodal officer to get a proposal made for parking under the Metro Track so that the complex has sufficient two and four-wheeler parking facilities. The new upcoming infra will be unique and the first of its kind in UP. Its salient features are multilevel-multi indoor sports complex which will be helpful for amateurs, professional and community players. The complex will have 2 glass squash courts, a shooting range on 10 meter bays with a seating arena
It will have facilities for paralympic games with easy access for specialized abled sportspersons. Almost 22 types of indoor games out of 28 Olympic games can be played in this complex. The commissioner has directed to complete all works of zone- 2 and zone-3 by the end of April this year. The zone-2 will have sports activities for all age group communities with a large gym, male and female separate spa having a sauna steam and Jacuzzi along with a physiotherapy room, kids playroom with differently-abled kids playroom on the ground floor. The first covered swimming pool of semi-Olympic size of Kanpur has added attraction with a kid splash pool for full-day uses even in hot summers and late-nights.
These facilities are complemented by a fine dining restaurant along with an open poolside cafeteria. Zone 3 has one of the largest indoor sports halls of UP which can accommodate 7 badminton courts at a time or alternatively other games like TT, handball, basketball, judo, karate, wrestling etc.
