‘Spark Studios’ theme for VBS at Abundant Grace July 18-22

WEIRTON — Abundant Grace Bible Church, 3900 Brightway St., Weirton, is hosting a Vacation Bible School on July 18-22 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

“Spark Studios” is the VBS theme. “Children will see the beautiful truth that they are God’s workmanship as they learn to use their talents to bring glory to him,” a church spokesperson noted.

The outreach is for children ages prekindergarten ages 3 and 4 to grade six and will include crafts, snacks, music and imagination station. No pre-registration is required.

Jefferson County Veterans

Association picnic is July 16

SMITHFIELD — The Jefferson County Veterans Association will hold its annual veterans picnic on July 16 from 2 pm. to 4 p.m. at Friendship Park in Smithfield in shelters one, two and three.

This year, the association will honor all first responders and invite all military veterans, active military and first responders and their families to attend.

The menu will include chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, desserts, watermelon, water and soda. The event will include camaraderie and an opportunity to explore the outdoor military museum and view the honor wall.

Tom Graham will sing the national anthem.

There will be a 60-40 drawing with 60 percent to the winner and the remainder to the Jefferson County Veterans Association. The drawing will be conducted at 3:30 p.m.

Historical society plans open house, gospel music concert

RICHMOND — The Richmond Community Historical Society has two events coming up this month.

The first is a continuation of its open house summer series with the Crew House Museum located at 34 W. Main St., Richmond, open for visitors on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.

Among more recent displays is one featuring wedding gowns of yesteryear, accessories and photos. The special display is courtesy of historical society member Hope Eimer.

Admission to the museum is free with donations welcomed. Summer open houses will continue from noon to 4 p.m. on the fourth Sunday of July and second and fourth Sunday of August.

The museum features a variety of town memorabilia and includes a second floor dedicated to Jefferson Union High School items of interest. Various items are available for purchase, including Richmond pottery mugs and history books.

The second event this month is an evening of gospel music featuring George Kokos and the K Band of the First Baptist Church in Wellsburg.

It will be held July 17 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Richmond United Methodist Church, 112 S. Sugar St., Richmond. A love offering will be taken. There will be refreshments. For information, contact Phil Judy, historical society president, at (740) 765-4534.

Indoor flea market Saturday

at Weirton American Legion

WEIRTON — An indoor flea market will be held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Weirton American Legion Post 10.

There are 20 vendors participating.
